# FSM Absolute Value & Factorising Resources

## Knowledge

- Course notes: `/workspace/fsm/abs.pdf` (7 pp)
Absolute value definition (p.1), equations (p.2), function/domain/range (p.3), graphs and salient point (pp.4–7). Use for: everything about absolute value; it is the primary source.
- Course notes: `/workspace/fsm/term1.pdf` (30 pp, scanned)
Factorising rules 1–5 (pp.1–4), algebraic fractions (pp.5–15), partial fractions (pp.16–22), factorising cubics, factor theorem and synthetic division (pp.23–30). Use for: the factorising rules and example problems.
- Course notes: `/workspace/fsm/term2.pdf` (35 pp, scanned)
Polynomial inequalities with interval notation (pp.2–9), completing the square and quadratic formula (pp.10–21), complex numbers (pp.22–35). Use for: interval notation only (not on this test's scope).
- Past November exams and memos: `/workspace/fsm/exams/` (2018 AP Maths, 2021 APM, 2022 FSM, 2024 FSM; same examiner)
Papers have a text layer; memos are handwritten scans. Use for: lesson 5 (in-scope questions only). The 2018 memo has no solution for Q9 (graphs). All memo answers re-checked with sympy.
- [Paul's Online Notes – Absolute Value Equations](https://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/SolveAbsValueEqns.aspx)
Clear worked examples, including checking solutions when x is on both sides. Use for: lesson 1.
- [Paul's Online Notes – Absolute Value Inequalities](https://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/SolveAbsValueIneq.aspx)
The "between" and "outside" rules. Use for: inequalities, which are not in abs.pdf.
- [Khan Academy – Absolute value equations & functions](https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/x2f8bb11595b61c86:absolute-value-equations-functions)
  Videos and practice on graphs of y = a|x − h| + k. Use for: lesson 2.
- [Paul's Online Notes – Factoring Polynomials](https://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/Factoring.aspx)
Common factor, grouping, trinomials and special forms (squares, cubes). Use for: lesson 3.
- [Paul's Online Notes – Dividing Polynomials](https://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/DividingPolynomials.aspx)
Synthetic division. Use for: the factor theorem part of lesson 3.

## Wisdom (Communities)

- Her FSM teacher and classmates: the best community for a test tomorrow. Ask the teacher whether absolute value inequalities and finding the equation from a graph are on the test.

## Gaps

- No source in her notes for absolute value inequalities.
- Finding the equation of an absolute value graph from a sketch (abs.pdf p.7) is only touched on in lesson 2, because its two example graphs are pictures I did not turn into exercises.
