Past exam questions

Lesson 5 · as long as you have · Win: the real exam questions on tomorrow’s topics, from the November exams of 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2024 (same examiner, Ms R. van Wyk).

How to use: do each question on paper first, with the marks as a guide to how much working is expected. For factorising questions, pick the rule first: you’ll get the clue and the memo answer straight away. For the others, press “Show worked solution” and mark yourself. Only questions on tomorrow’s work are here. Everything else in those exams (fractions, complex numbers, partial fractions, completing the square, matrices, area, probability, statistics) has been left out.

A. Absolute value equations

B. Absolute value graphs

C. Factorising: which rule?

D. Cubics: factor theorem & synthetic division

Primary: your notes, abs.pdf pp.1–7 and term1.pdf pp.1–4, 23–30. External: Paul’s Online Notes – Absolute Value Equations. The memo answers are the school’s own; I re-checked every one with computer algebra (sympy). Where a memo was missing or slightly off, the solution says so.

Got one wrong? Ask your teacher-agent to explain that exact question, or for three more like it.
